Harris Tweed
Case Study
Harris Tweed is a world famous cloth that is 100% produced in the Western Isles of Scotland. It is handwoven, finished, dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides using pure virgin wool. The cloth is protected by The Orb mark, the United Kingdom’s oldest certification mark. Stewart Miller was involved in laying the foundations for a £2million three year international marketing campaign, which was part of a larger £10million modernisation strategy. Stewart worked with the producers and the Harris Tweed Association to ensure that all marketing activities were co-ordinated to maximise the marketing campaigns in the chosen markets. This included drafting detailed international marketing plans for each party and overseeing the appointment of suitably qualified marketing services agencies. The modernisation strategy introduced newer technology to the industry (e.g. double width looms), and the marketing campaigns helped to re-position Harris Tweed once again as a prestigious product and helped to extend its appeal to a wider audience.
