Swamp Soccer
Case Study
Stewart Miller created a unique, fun, award-winning and inclusive sporting event in the UK. Initially created to help boost local tourism on the west coast of Scotland, the Swamp Soccer World Cup soon became a key annual feature in Scotland’s events calendar. Quite simply football played on a swamp pitch, the annual event attracted all types, from athletes to couch potatoes, and groups of friends to corporate teams. Within four years the Swamp Soccer World Cup was securing over 100 teams from 25 different countries. The quirky event attracted many sponsors such as FRijj (Dairy Crest), Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and SealSkinz, and very extensive global media coverage. The event won the coveted Chairman’s Award at the Scottish Event Awards, beating other nominees like the music festival T in the Park. Stewart extended the event to overseas markets including China (Beijing), India (Mumbai) and Turkey (Istanbul). The World Cup tournament was transferred to Turkey.
